Economics and Institutions is a survey course
intended to
introduce first-semester MBA students to basic principles of economics
and
financial institutions. This wide-ranging course will introduce
elements of
microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial institutions, corporate
governance
and basic prerequisite tools for financial analysis. We will assume
that
students will have had no previous exposure to these topics, but the
pace of
the course will be fast and a substantial amount of material will be
covered.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should have the
economics
and markets preparation sufficient to enroll in other introductory
courses in
the MBA program and certain more advanced economics and finance courses
as
well. In addition, after completing this course, students should have a
basic
feel for the roles various governments and financial institutions in
the world
economy and how individual economic agents make economic and financial
decisions. More details are

not attempt this course with an insufficient quantitative background
(including a comprehension of subject material from Algebra,
Finite Mathematics, Calculus, Statistics and an introductory finance

elementary matrix mathematics and calculus) and Additional Readings links
